Pottermore Publishing release digital editions of Pocket Potters alongside Bloomsbury’s print publication.
Pocket Potters, the new first-of-its kind series of companion books to the iconic Harry PotterTM stories, has debuted today! These bite-sized guides are the perfect way to introduce young readers to the wizarding world and for fans to learn more about their favourite witches and wizards. Kicking off with Harry, Ron, and Hermione, we are delighted to offer the eBook editions, which are wonderfully optimised for full-colour devices alongside the print publication by Bloomsbury in the UK and Scholastic in the US.
Each of these must-have guides has been joyfully illustrated by a different artist; Natalie Smillie bringing to life the brave and selfless Harry Potter, Olia Murza capturing Ron Weasley’s funny and loyal nature, and bright and determined Hermione Granger has been illustrated by Laura Proietti. These engaging and emotionally expressive illustrations will captivate readers by bringing each character to life on each page.
We teamed up with two agencies in the creation of these eBooks to ensure that Pocket Potters could be enjoyed by as many people as possible and to guarantee that we complied with the latest European Accessibility Act (EAA). We asked our Senior Production Manager, Jasmine, to explain from a production perspective, what making these eBooks as accessible as possible actually looked like in practice:
“For Pottermore, it meant ensuring our eBooks met the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). That included adding metadata to the eBooks that highlights features such as page navigation (to help readers move through the book easily), high contrast display options (for those with low vision) and alternative text (so screen readers can describe the illustrations).
We partnered with Circular Software to build the eBooks and worked closely with textBOX to craft meaningful alt text, so that every reader, regardless of how they access these eBooks, can enjoy the magic of Pocket Potters”
We hope you agree that these eBooks look absolutely enchanting! There are more to guides to come in 2026, including the already announced Professor Dumbledore and Luna Lovegood. Who doesn’t want to learn some spellbinding facts about our favourite Hogwarts Headmaster and quirky Ravenclaw?
