Find out more about what we’ve done as well as what the future holds.
Pottermore Publishing is the global digital audiobook and eBook publisher of J.K. Rowling’s multi-million bestselling Harry Potter series and associated titles from the Wizarding World. Working with a global network of retail and library partners, we prioritise accessibility, creativity, and innovation as we brings these beloved stories to life for each generation of readers and listeners to discover.
From Pottermore’s first incarnation in 2012, the range of titles and languages we publish has grown in each subsequent year, making digital editions of Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts and other Wizarding World related content available through smartphones, smart speakers, tablets and eReaders, whenever and wherever anyone wants to read or hear the magic. We have audiobooks and eBooks available in more than 25 languages, and we work with online retailers and distributors throughout the world, offering extensive marketing and account management support that to help grow our sales year on year.
The first digital editions of the Harry Potter 1-7 titles were joined in 2016 by the eBook of the playscript Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which we published in 24 languages. This was quickly followed by the Pottermore Presents eBook shorts and the screenplay of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them that same year.
In 2017, we released the first ever audio edition of the Hogwarts Library book title of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, with bespoke foley design from Pinewood Studios and binaural audio, along with an industry-leading, motion-designed Kindle in Motion edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and three brand new eBooks accompanying the British Library’s exhibition – Harry Potter: A History of Magic.
2018 saw the introduction of yet more languages across both eBook and audio formats, including the first audiobook edition of the Hogwarts Library book Quidditch Through the Ages and the screenplay of the second Fantastic Beasts movie, The Crimes of Grindelwald. Then in 2019, we added three new additions to our audiobook catalogue releasing Harry Potter in Icelandic, Turkish and Arabic.
In 2020, of course, everything changed without warning and our focus quickly turned to maintaining access to the stories around the world. We wanted to do what we could to help families who had often suddenly found themselves home-schooling in very trying circumstances. First, we collaborated with our colleagues at The Blair Partnership to support the Harry Potter at Home campaign, making the first Harry Potter audiobook available to stream free of charge and temporarily rescinding any limitations on teachers’ rights to make readings available to their students.
Later in the year, we created the audio soundscape ‘Journeys to Hogwarts’, which celebrated the September 1st Back to Hogwarts moment and saw us work with a wide array of narrators – including members of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child London cast then on furlough – to voice sections of the Harry Potter books against a backdrop of immersive soundscapes, which we again made free to stream. All of this took place as we continued to manage our core publishing output, including creating the first ever audio editions of Harry Potter to be recorded under pandemic conditions, the Brazilian audiobooks read by Ícaro Silva.
2021 saw us release Turkish eBooks, Korean audiobooks and begin to work on new projects including a hugely successful collaboration in China with leisure reading specialist Mint Reading. Launched in July, we now have our first app-based, reading camp for English Language learners based on the Harry Potter eBooks and audiobooks.
More details of many of these projects can be found in our news section. This will continue to be populated with updates from the Pottermore team, so be sure to check back for information on our latest publishing.
