Pottermore Publishing launches with accessibility charity, Calibre.
Here at Pottermore Publishing, we recognise the importance of accessibility and aim to support anyone who wants to experience the magic of the Harry Potter™ stories. This means removing barriers for people who are blind or partially sighted, deaf or hard of hearing, unable to turn pages due to physical disabilities, and colour blind, so readers of all abilities can enjoy the stories.
On 4th April we extended the partnerships we have in this space, launching with Calibre, a UK‑based charity providing accessible audiobooks to people with sight loss, dyslexia, and physical disabilities. With a library of over 21,000 titles available through streaming, downloads, or memory sticks, Calibre enables flexible, independent reading for both pleasure and education.
We are also partnered with Bookshare.org and RNIB Bookshare. Bookshare.org is the world’s largest library of accessible eBooks, offering members access to over 1.4 million titles in easy-to-read formats. They aim to empower young readers who struggle with print, by offering accessible features like audio-narration and text highlighting. Supporting reading for education, career development, and leisure, their library spans more than 40 languages. Bookshare is powered by partnerships with over 1,000 US and international publishers, along with a dedicated global volunteer community, helping readers access books in the ways that work best for them.
RNIB Bookshare is a free UK based service supporting children and adults who cannot read standard print, including those with dyslexia, or who are blind or partially sighted. It provides over 1.3 million accessible educational and leisure titles as well as over 3000 accessible large print and tactile images. They offer a range of formats for readers to choose from like EPUB, DAISY text and audio, and Braille Ready Format (BRF), all helping learners read independently across all stages of education.
All of our eBooks and audiobooks have the following features available:
But we are committed to continually exploring new ways to improve access to our eBooks and audiobooks for people of all ages and abilities so invite other accessibility platforms to get in touch with us via our Publishing inbox.
