Harry Potter Book Night 2019 round-up

4th March 2019

The annual celebration of reading Harry Potter is a great excuse to throw a party – on and offline!

Every February, Harry Potter fans congregate to celebrate the iconic series. Harry Potter Book Night was founded by UK publishers Bloomsbury in 2014 and ever since more and more fans have been getting involved.

Each year has a different theme which celebrates a different part of the Wizarding World. This year the theme was Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Events took place all over the world: across Europe, into Russia and all the way to the US.

The most northerly event was a school party in Novodvinsk in the Arkhangelsk region of Russia; the most southerly event was at the Khandallah Library in Wellington, New Zealand; and the furthest away from any other was at the Wycombe Abbey International School in Changshou, China!

Pottermore Publishing received a lot of fantastic support from our partners online. We provided them with a digital toolkit taking inspiration from this year’s theme. The toolkit was used for a number of brilliant online social campaigns by Audible UK, France, Italy and Germany. Elsewhere, Microsoft created a Harry Potter Book night collection on their Spotlight storefront. Our library partners Overdrive, Bolinda and W.F. Howes also got involved and supported across their channels.

So it’s well worth getting geared up to celebrate Harry Potter Book Night next year!
