Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone named best and most influential book in the past 30 years by British Book Awards

This year, the British Book Awards, aka The Nibbies, has recognised the first Harry Potter book in a special award that celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The British Book Awards showcases and celebrates the best books, bookshops and publishers. This year, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone has been honoured in their special 30from30 award.

In her acceptance speech, J.K. Rowling said, ‘It is a massive honour to receive a 30th anniversary Best of the Nibbies award for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It is particularly meaningful because the first award Harry ever won was a Nibbie.’

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was chosen from a longlist of 30 books, all past winners of the awards.  In their Winners’ Supplement The Bookseller said of the win: ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was the book that lived. It changed everything for everyone and is the rightful winner of this one-off award.’
